Social Studies

After graduating from high school, I attended Eastern Arizona College and graduated with an Associates Arts degree in Physical Education.  I then spend many years being educated in my home as I raised my children.  After my youngest daughter started school I decided it was time for me to return to the classroom.  I enrolled in Northern Arizona University and graduated Summa Com Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  After teaching for many years I determined it was time to again go back to school.  I then enrolled in Grand Canyon University.  There I obtained a Masters Degree in Teaching.

I have been a Thatcher Eagle for over thirty years.  I began my professional career as an Eagle when I started working part time as a tutor for the middle school.  I transferred to the high school and worked in several positions while I went to school to finish my teaching degree.  Some of them include substitute teacher, Assistant Manager of the Speedy Eagle, High School Counselors Secretary, Registrar, and a PE and Weights teacher.  I left Thatcher Schools to do my student teaching and taught a combined 5th and 6th grade class at Discovery Plus Academy.  I returned to Thatcher Schools in 2007 where I taught sixth grade social studies for five years.  I jumped at the chance to move to fifth grade because I have a passion for the fifth grade curriculum of American History.  I have been loving and teaching fifth grade since 2012.

The most often question I am asked by new fifth grade students is, “Are you related to Mr. Allred, the Primary School Principal?”  I always answer, “Yes, He is my husband. Aren’t I lucky?!”   Mr. Allred and I are blessed with three sons and two daughters.  Some of my favorite things to do are to watch and play sports, camp, read, and spend time with my family, especially my five grandchildren.

Our class will follow the three basic Elementary School Rules.
1. Do nothing that would put yourself or anyone else in danger.
2. Do nothing that would disrupt or distract from the educational process.
3. Do nothing that would damage the school, its contents, or its reputation.

Our class motto is:
Whatever what our class is doing I will
With my eyes, ears, mind, hands, feet and heart.

One of my favorite quotes is by John Wooden.  He said, “Discipline yourself and others won’t need to.”

We have found the best way to have fun in the Fifth grade is:
Follow the rules.
Unity. Do what is best for the entire class.
Never give up.

In Social Studies we acquire the skills that will help us to: Learn from the Past.  Live in the Present.  Plan for the Future.
