Principal's Bio

I have lived in Thatcher for the majority of my life. I have a deep and abiding love for Thatcher and the Gila Valley.

I graduated from Thatcher High School in 1972.

I graduated from Eastern Arizona College in 1976.

I graduated from ASU with a Bachelor's Degree in 1980.

I began teaching and coaching at Thatcher High School in the fall of 1980.

I graduated from NAU with a Master's Degree in 1989.

I've had many wonderful, memorable experiences with students and athletes at Thatcher High School.

I am enjoying getting to know the wonderful students at Thatcher Elementary.

I have many favorite books but one of my many favorites is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I've enjoyed going through that book many times with sophomore English students.

One of many favorite quotes is from Louis L'Amour: The best of all things is to learn. Money can be lost or stolen, health and strength may fail, but what you have committed to your mind is yours forever.

I am married to Loretta Payne Mullenaux. We have six wonderful children and currently twelve grandchildren.

I have spent 27 different summers working for the Forest Service on Mt. Graham. I have enjoyed many different assignments. I was on several fire crews, engine crews, trail crews, and worked as a lookout for wild fires two different summers. I have worked as a foreman of many different crews and the final three years I worked cleaning campgrounds, collecting fees, and picking up garbage from various campgrounds on the mountain. I am proud of the fact that my father worked for the Forest Service for a number of summers and both of my grandfathers as well during the course of their lives.
